Year-Round Activities

Rotary Clubs participate in two main kinds of activities - projects and fundraisers.

Projects
Projects are events, programs, dinners, etc. that the club supports with funding, hands-on work, leadership, materials or all of the above. These projects can be done by one club or multiple clubs working together, at a local or global level, on short or long term basis and provide needed services for any age. The types of projects vary widely, but all will support the over arching mission of Rotary International. Typically Rotarians are working to prevent disease, provide clean water and health resources, fight illiteracy, natural disaster relief and to ensure people around the world have access to the basic things that someone needs for survival.

The Baldwinsville Rotary Club puts on several programs and works on projects throughout the year, including:
-Earth Day Clean Up
-Blood Clinic
-Providing dictionaries to all third grade students in the school district
-Senior Citizen Holiday Lunch - a free meal for seniors in Baldwinsville, along with holiday music and cheer!

In addition to putting on projects like these, we make donations to other local organizations that work on their own projects. There are many people out there doing great work to support families in need, help college students, cheer up the sick and more.

Our club also gives out three scholarships each spring!

Fundraisers
Of course the money for these projects has to come from some where, so clubs also work on fundraising projects to support their efforts. These can be in the form of selling items, hosting meals the community can attend, raffles and community events.

Our club hosts a spaghetti dinner on the first Wednesday of each month October through April. In addition to raising money for the club, we have a raffle at each meal that benefits a different local cause - this year it's the area's elementary school PTA's.

We have a 5K Run/Walk in the fall that was a great success this year. It started and finished at Baker High School and we had 90 participants, raising money for the Baldwinsville Community Food Pantry.

We also put on Seneca River Day each summer, featuring family-friendly activities, music, food and fireworks along the Seneca River. Money is raised from the sponsorships of generous local businesses and individuals, as well as from the tickets we sell for the Great Seneca River Duck Race. We dump a couple thousand plastic ducks in the river to race to a fun noodle finish line to determine the winners of cash and prizes - also kindly donated from local companies and supporters. Almost everything at Seneca River Day is free for families to enjoy, with no admission, including bounce houses, fun contests, music, magic and even a teddy bear picnic that was a huge success last year. There are usually pony rides, face painting, henna art, eats and treats and other goods on sale as well! This is the main fundraiser for us and how we are able to support the projects and other local service organizations throughout the year. Every year we get a great turn out from the community and support from area businesses - which we truly appreciate!
